Nesting birds

This photograph captures a remarkable wetland bird colony, where numerous birds have gathered on a large, tiered nest structure built in a tree surrounded by water. The scene is alive with activity—Painted Storks, herons, egrets, and other waterbirds share the nesting site, while some birds take flight and others tend to their nests. The calm water, lush vegetation, blue sky, and reflections create a beautiful natural setting, highlighting the richness of Sri Lanka’s wetland ecosystems. More than just a wildlife photograph, this image beautifully portrays community, breeding, and coexistence in one of nature’s busiest nurseries.
