Sri Lankan sloth bear

The Sri Lankan Sloth Bear (Melursus ursinus inornatus) is a distinctive and elusive mammal of Sri Lanka’s dry-zone forests and scrublands. With its shaggy black coat, pale muzzle and long, curved claws, it is well adapted for feeding on insects, fruits and other seasonal foods. Mostly active at dusk and during the night, the sloth bear is a fascinating symbol of Sri Lanka’s wild landscapes and an important part of the forest ecosystem.
